Introducing scholars to kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding as tools for confidence, focus, and self-reliance on the water.
Participants learn foundational paddling skills including equipment familiarity, paddle mechanics, balance, and efficient movement. On the water, scholars practice reading their environment—wind, current, and water conditions—while developing decision-making skills rooted in safety, awareness, and control.
Water Term also integrates applied learning, connecting paddling skills to real-world concepts such as water safety, environmental awareness, and stewardship. Scholars gain an understanding of how waterways function as shared spaces and how responsibility, respect, and teamwork contribute to positive outdoor experiences.
By combining movement, skill progression, and situational awareness, Water Term positions paddling as a platform for leadership, confidence, and access to outdoor spaces that many students may not otherwise experience. This partnership reflects Camp Outpost’s commitment to bringing high-quality, inclusive outdoor education directly into community settings, creating pathways into lifelong outdoor engagement.
