Horse Pathway | Horsemanship + Overland Cooking
A hands-on introduction to horsemanship, animal science, and outdoor living skills, bringing scholars beyond the classroom and into the arena with Epic For Girls and other community partners.
Camp Outpost's Horse Pathway connects scholars with horses through experiential learning focused on equine care, grooming, nutrition, groundwork, and foundational horsemanship. Working alongside experienced coaches, participants learn to recognize equine body language, understand nonverbal communication, and build trust with an animal that responds to their movement, energy, and approach.
From grooming and leading to opportunities for horseback riding, scholars develop an understanding of responsible animal care while practicing patience, communication, self-regulation, and confidence in an unfamiliar environment.
Our Horse Pathway also incorporates Overland Cooking, bringing scholars together around an outdoor kitchen to practice food preparation, teamwork, and practical cooking skills. It's another opportunity to build independence, contribute to a shared experience, and learn by doing.
The goal goes well beyond riding a horse. This pathway creates space for scholars to work through hesitation, take on new responsibilities, develop physical and emotional capacity, and discover what they're capable of through meaningful connections with animals, coaches, and one another.
Built Through Community Partnership
Developed in collaboration with Bar Star Ranch & Rehabilitation, this pathway brings together organizations committed to expanding access to experiences that build confidence, resilience, and connection. Our partnership network helps create opportunities for girls, individuals with diverse needs, underserved communities, and system-impact families to explore new skills, build capacity, and experience the value of showing up for themselves and one another.
Program Availability: Offered Fall through Spring as a one-time, 90-minute experiential clinic for community nonprofit partners. Programming is adaptable to participant ages, abilities, and group needs.
