Nelson Mandela x Camp Outpost Stand-up Paddleboard & Skate Clinic

A multi-discipline clinic designed to build confidence through movement, skill progression, and applied learning. Scholars rotate through stand-up paddleboarding, skateboarding, and STEM-based exploration—developing balance, control, and problem-solving across environments.

The stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) component is a focused progression on water safety, foundational paddle technique, and environmental awareness. Scholars learn proper stance and posture, efficient paddle strokes (forward, sweep, and stopping), and how to control direction and speed on flatwater. Instruction includes safe entry and exit, board handling, and what to do in the event of a fall—building comfort and confidence early. As skills progress, participants begin linking strokes for smooth tracking, navigating simple routes, and understanding water conditions such as wind, current, and shoreline features. Equipment is provided and fitted on-site, with coaching that meets each participant at their level.

On land, skate sessions focus on stance, push mechanics, and controlled turning—introducing progression in a structured, supportive setting. Integrated STEM components connect these experiences through hands-on learning, from board design and movement mechanics to environmental systems and observation.

This clinic removes barriers to entry while maintaining a high standard of instruction, providing access to equipment, coaching, and a clear pathway for continued progression. Participants leave with tangible skills, increased confidence, and a deeper understanding of how movement, science, and the outdoors intersect.

NE Juvenile Justice Center x Camp Outpost Skate Term

Skate Term at Nebraska Juvenile Justice Center
Closed Registration

Camp Outpost is proud to bring Skate Term into Nebraska’s Juvenile Justice Centers, delivering a program built on progression, trust, and real opportunity for young people navigating complex paths.

This closed-registration Skate Term uses surf skate and transition-based riding to create structure, focus, and momentum in an environment where positive outlets matter most. Participants build balance, coordination, and confidence through intentional coaching and purpose-driven games that turn movement into discipline and discipline into growth. Every session is designed to reinforce resilience, accountability, and teamwork—skills that extend far beyond the skate space.

Programs like this matter in detention centers and alternative learning environments because access changes outcomes. When young people are given a chance to build something positive—rather than being defined by where they’ve been—they start to see what’s possible next. Skateboarding becomes more than an activity. It becomes a tool for self-expression, emotional regulation, and rebuilding trust in themselves and others.

Skate Term in this setting reflects Camp Outpost’s commitment to meeting youth where they are and creating pathways forward—bringing professional instruction, structure, and belonging into spaces that too often lack opportunity. This is how we turn access into momentum.
